Newfoundland At Armageddon

Newfoundland joins Canada

On August 4, 1914, when Britain declared war on Germany, it meant that all her colonies were also at war. At that time, Newfoundland was the oldest, self-governing British colony and not part of Canada. The massive debt incurred fighting for the Empire in both World Wars, along with the development of a railway system, led Newfoundland to join the Canadian Confederation on March 31, 1949.
